CSE 8xx requests will be processed around July 15 when incoming graduate students have a chance to enroll. 

If you are requesting a course for which CSE840 is a prerequisite, please send an email to mattis20@msu.edu to enroll in test-out. If you receive at least 50% in the test-out, you will be permitted to take CSE840 concurrently with other AI/ML classes. If you intend to take only one CSE class (e.g., non-CSE student), you do not have to take CSE840 if you have passed the test-out. Note that test-out DOES NOT provide you credit for the course. 

CSE 840 is NOT a successor to CSE 440. It is a class that covers mathematical foundation necessary for various AI/ML/DS classes. If you are an undergraduate student, CSE 840 does not count as technical elective on its own. However, if you take CSE 840 and another dependent course (e.g., CSE802, 803, etc.) then both courses count as technical electives.

If you are an undergraduate student interested in CSE 830, enroll in CSE 431. Once the semester starts, we will switch to CSE 830. We are doing this to ensure that there are sufficient slots available to undergraduate students and graduate students.
